Catholic Charities Increases Services in the Coachella Valley

Home Visitation Services

COACHELLA CA –Last year Catholic Charities provided approximately $750,000 in programs and services in the Coachella Valley with the goal of comprehensively addressing the multiple problems and issues that often impact poor families. During that same time period, Catholic Charities provided services to a total of 5,800 households in the Coachella Valley. These services included Family & Community Services, Immigration Services, Counseling Services and other Special Programs, including the Food Distribution Program in the Eastern Coachella Valley.

Catholic Charities recently contracted with Riverside County Child Protective Services to provide “Home Visitation Services,” that can aid families with a history of past child abuse, or help to reunify families after child removal.

Gary McMane, Director of Counseling Programs and Service for Catholic Charities, explained that the program “sends an interdisciplinary team(a case manager and a therapist/parent educator) out to the house to meet the family in their own environment to provide social services and linkages to other community services.”

“This innovative approach will help those with the most need, who are under the radar, by going out to them and helping defuse family problems with creative methods before a child is hurt, abused or severely neglected.”

Catholic Charities constantly seeks private and public support for the work of the agency throughout the two-county area and depends on financial support from the community to maintain and expand services.
